Job Overview

Located on our historic campus in Towson, Maryland, Sheppard Pratt School and Residential Treatment Center (RTC) is a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) approved, level V nonpublic school. We offer a year-round therapeutic educational and residential program catering to youths ages 12-18 with emotional and behavioral challenges. Our comprehensive program offers structured community and recreational activities alongside full-day special and general education schooling.

What to expect.

Oversees the clinical and administrative operations of residential/inpatient behavioral health services, ensuring quality care, program effectiveness, safety, and regulatory compliance. Supervises staff, coordinates treatment, admissions, and discharge planning, supports quality improvement and budget management, and provides individual and group therapy to assigned residents.

Specific responsibilities include:

Customer Relations - Actively seeks to provide quality services that meet the needs of patients/residents as well as other customers - families, visitors, staff, referrers, and payers. 

Operational/Milieu Management – Provides for the 24-hour management of the residential milieu and the operational concerns of assigned areas.

• Schedules staffing and work assignments to meet resident needs and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in pre-admission process and coordinated admission day procedures.

Delivery of Residential/Inpatient Services - Leads staff in the delivery of quality behavioral health care services that reflect the needs of the population served.

• Leads the treatment/behavioral support team of assigned area(s) and delegates work assignments. In collaboration with the treatment teams, makes clinical decisions relevant to the residents, families, and overall treatment planning direction including discharge planning.
• In collaboration with program leaders, designs and implements services that are responsive to changing program needs.
• Communicates or coordinates communication with family regarding changes in resident’s medical/psychiatric condition on a timely basis with appropriate details.
• Responsible for providing individual, group, and family therapy for assigned caseload.
• May be responsible to transport clients using company vehicle.

Staff Supervision

• Selects, orients, appraises job performance, and as necessary, disciplines and discharges assigned staff.
• Provides ongoing clinical and administrative supervision. Identifies individual/group issues and concerns, and develops strategies for action which assist in promoting and maintaining team morale.
• Plans, coordinates, and provides ongoing training for unit staff in collaboration with program leaders.
• Conducts staff meetings as a means of facilitating communication and process improvements with assigned staff.

Program Planning and Evaluation

Documentation/Compliance - Evaluates and monitors all documentation and initiates corrective action to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education and years and level of related experience.

What we need from you.

• Education required: Master's or doctorate degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
• License: Must possess one of the following licenses to practice in the state of Maryland at time of appointment and maintain licensure throughout time in position: LMSW, LGPC, LCSW-C, LCPC, Licensed PhD or PsyD Psychologist
• Years and type of experience: 2 years of clinically relevant experience working with the child and adolescent populations and their families and support systems.
• Skills required:

• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Interpersonal skills sufficient to direct staff and to effectively communicate within the Health System and with outside individuals, groups, and committees in order to exchange information, provide clinical care/services, make presentations, and make and obtain commitments (51-80% of work time).
• Work requires problem-solving skills sufficient to develop and evaluate plans and objective for programs(s), provide clinical care and treatment for assigned caseload, and resolve programmatic problems.
• Work requires the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details when preparing for review by outside parties and meeting program deadlines, and frequently (21-50%) produces a high level of mental fatigue.

Transportation: Requires valid state driver's license and must meet requirements as outlined in Sheppard Pratt's transportation policy.
